New York: A federal judge ordered on Sunday night that US President Donald Trump must cancel any remaining television commercials funded with millions of dollars in taxpayer money to promote his political message, even as the administration said the advertising campaign was coming to an end.

US District Judge Jennifer L Rochon in New York ruled in favour of a coalition that challenged the advertisements, including the nonpartisan watchdog Common Cause, which alleged the campaign illegally misused public funds.

Rochon issued a temporary restraining order directing the administration to cancel any remaining advertisements, including those scheduled to air on Sunday night.
